Mainduties

Meteorologists and climatologists perform some or all of the following duties:

Analyzeand interpret data obtained from meteorological stations, radar and satelliteimagery and computer model output

Produceweather forecasts and provide weather consulting services for industries suchas aviation, marine, agriculture and tourism, and to the general public

Disseminateweather forecasts and reports to the general public through a variety of mediaincluding radio, television, print and the Internet

Conductresearch and provide consultation on the processes and determinants ofatmospheric phenomena, weather and climate, atmospheric dispersion, andphysical and chemical transformation of pollutants

Developand test mathematical computer models of weather and climate for experimentalor operational use

Analyzethe impact of industrial projects and human activity on the climate and qualityof the air and work with the social science, engineering and economic communitiesto develop appropriate mitigation strategies

Participatein studies of the effect of weather on the environment

Provideconsultation and advice to outside agencies, professionals, or researchersregarding the use and interpretation of climatological information

Makescientific presentations, publish reports, articles or popular texts forspecialists, users or the general public

Mayengage in the design and development of new equipment and procedures formeteorological data collection, remote sensing, or for related applications.

Membershipin the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society or, in Quebec, inl'Association professionelle des météorologistes du Québec is available, butvoluntary, for qualified meteorologists.
