Secondaryschool teachers perform some or all of the following duties:
Preparesubject material for presentation to students according to an approvedcurriculum
Teachstudents using a systematic plan of lectures, discussions, audio-visualpresentations, and laboratory, shop and field studies
Assignand correct homework
Prepare,administer and correct tests
Evaluateprogress, determine individual needs of students and discuss results withparents and school officials
Prepareand implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help
Participatein staff meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops
Mayteach and evaluate students through distance or online courses
Mayadvise students on course selection and on vocational and personal matters
Maysupervise student teachers.
Secondary school teachers may specialize in such areas as mathematics, English,French, special education or second language instruction. Secondary schoolteachers of vocational and trades subjects may specialize in areas such ashairdressing or auto mechanics.
