Biologistsand related scientists conduct basic and applied research to extend knowledgeof living organisms, to manage natural resources, and to develop new practicesand products related to medicine and agriculture. They are employed in bothlaboratory and field settings by governments, environmental consultingcompanies, resource and utilities companies, chemical, pharmaceutical andbiotechnical companies and health and educational institutions.

--开展人类、动物和植物组织和细胞的结构和功能研究；

--对人类、动植物病原体和毒素的鉴定、影响和控制进行相关研究（新新源移民）；

--开展临床和实验室研究，测试、评估和筛选生物医学应用中使用的药品、药物、纳米粒子。

--开展遗传表达、基金操作和DNA重组技术的分子或化学生物学研究，开发新的或替代的产品生产方法；

--可能参与新产品的商业化；

Mainduties

Biologists perform some or all of the following duties:

Planand conduct studies of the environment, and of the population, distribution,structure and functional characteristics and behaviour of plants and animals

Conductecological and environmental impact studies and prepare reports

Study,identify and classify plant and animal specimens

Conductexperiments in plant or animal growth, heredity and breeding

Preparereports and plans for management of renewable resources

Maysupervise biological technologists and technicians and other scientists.

Microbiologists and cell and molecular biologists perform some or all of thefollowing duties:

Conductresearch into the structure, function, ecology, biotechnology and genetics ofmicro-organisms, including bacteria, fungi, protozoans, and algae

Conductresearch into the structure and functioning of human, animal and plant tissuesand cells

Conductstudies into the identification, effects and control of human, plant and animalpathogens and toxins

Conductclinical or laboratory studies to test, evaluate and screen drugs,pharmaceuticals and nanoparticles used in biomedical applications

Conductmolecular or biochemical studies and experiments in genetic expression, genemanipulation and recombinant DNA technology to develop new or alternativemethods of producing products

Conductresearch in biotechnology to discover, develop and refine, and evaluate newproducts

Mayparticipate in the commercialization of new products

Maysupervise biological technologists and technicians and other scientists

Mayconduct biostatistical data analysis using computer modelling techniques.

Biologists and related scientists may specialize at the macroscopic level, infields such as botany, zoology, ecology and marine biology or, at the cellularand molecular level, in fields such as genetics, immunology, pharmacology,toxicology, physiology, pathology, bacteriology, virology, biotechnology andbioinformatics.
