Mainduties

Chemical technologists perform some or all of the following duties:

Setup and conduct chemical experiments, tests and analyses using techniques suchas chromatography, spectroscopy, physical and chemical separation techniquesand microscopy

Operateand maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus and prepare solutions of gas orliquid, reagents, and sample formulations

Compilerecords and interpret experimental or analytical results

Developand conduct programs of sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards ofraw materials, chemical intermediates and products

Assistin the development of chemical engineering processes, studies of chemicalengineering procurement, construction, inspection and maintenance and thedevelopment of standards, procedures and health and safety measures

Operateexperimental chemical or petrochemical pilot plants

Conductor assist in air and water quality testing and assessments, environmentalmonitoring and protection activities, and development of and compliance withstandards

Assistin synthesis of small molecules for the purpose of creating drug candidates

Assistin the design and fabrication of experimental apparatus.

Chemical technicians perform some or all of the following duties:

Assistin setting up and conducting chemical experiments, tests and analyses

Operateand maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus and prepare solutions of gasand liquid, reagents and sample formulations

Compilerecords for analytical studies

Assistin developing and conducting programs of sampling and analysis to maintainquality standards

Carryout a limited range of other technical functions in support of chemicalresearch, tests and analyses, and environmental air and water qualitymonitoring and protection

Assistin the design and fabrication of experimental apparatus.
